Two local hospitals, Butler Hospital & Rhode Island Hospital, will begin testing the effects of deep brain stimulation, or DBS, as a treatment for those with Alzheimer's Disease. According to the press release, this is a disease affecting more than 5 million people in the US and has no cure; they are hoping to investigate the safety and effect of DBS on memory loss and cognition.
